We at WK & Partners are excited to share an important update for the construction industry in Malaysia. Ministry of Housing and Local Government has introduced new guidelines to enhance the adoption of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) for private projects.
Key highlights of the guidelines include:
💡 Minimum IBS Score Requirement:
A minimum IBS score of 70 is now mandatory for building plan applications for private construction projects valued at RM50 million and above, with a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 50,000 square meters and above.
💡 Role of CIDB:
The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) will act as the External Technical Agency (ATL) within the OSC Committee, overseeing the entire implementation of IBS for private projects.
💡 Target for State and Local Authorities:
By 2025, at least 50% of State Authorities and Local Authorities must mandate IBS implementation for private project building plan applications.
These guidelines aim to:
✔ Boost productivity in the construction sector
✔ Enhance the competitiveness of local industry players
✔ Create more specialized job opportunities
✔ Reduce dependence on foreign labor
At WK & Partners, we are committed to staying ahead of industry trends and ensuring our projects meet and exceed these new standards. We believe that embracing IBS will lead to more efficient, sustainable, and innovative construction practices in Malaysia.
Let’s build a better future together!
